Double Falls in May 2010

Double Falls is one of those instances where the picture can’t reveal the true beauty or the full effect of a waterfall. Double Falls is surprisingly tall, it actually is probably the tallest waterfall in Silver Falls State Park.

I could imagine it would be very easy to miss the falls, though. Double Falls is found on a side-trail to the Ten Waterfalls trail. It’s a very short side hike to the falls, but some people probably don’t take the time to go see the falls. You definitely shouldn’t miss Double Falls.

I don’t remember whether the hike was particularly windy. I don’t think it was, but once I hiked into the area where Double Falls was found, it suddenly became very windy. There was a LOT of spray coming from the falls, and it was hard to keep my camera dry. I didn’t stay too long at the falls simply because the temperature around the falls dropped more than expected, so it was chilly and wet, but simultaneously amazing!

Directions:
1) From Salem, drive east on US-22 to the junction of US-22 and OR-214.
2) Head north on OR-214 for 15 miles, following the numerous signs to Silver Falls State Park.
3) You can park at either the South Falls or North Falls parking areas. The South Falls parking area is larger, and the Waterfall Trail leads you past all of the falls. The side trail to the falls is found between Drake Falls and Lower North Falls, and there is a sign indicating the trail.
